Luisito Antequera's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. In the 15th minute Montevideo were awarded a corner. Wilson Fernandez went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Wilson Fernandez almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 18th minute of play. Antonio Arias hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Luisito Antequera tried to sneak it across the goal line. 23 minutes into the game, Bray McJon cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luisito Antequera in the 26th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Ronaldo Medeiros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Ronaldo Medeiros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 36th minute of play. Ronaldo Medeiros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 38th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronaldo Medeiros having to interfere. Olavo Matorin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 44th minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luisito Antequera could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. In the 47th match minute, Montevideo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fernandão Recife to maneuver through the defense. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luisito Antequera stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bray McJon in the 51st minute of play. After 53 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Wilson Fernandez who took care of the corner kick. Daniel Zorita kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Ronaldo Medeiros in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With 61 minutes on the clock, Mário Maranhense commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 60th minute, one of Montevideo:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Montevideo. Daniel Zorita placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! In the 66th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 68 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ronaldo Medeiros. Montevideo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Zorita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. A collision led to Montevideo getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Bray McJon hit a great ball. After 72 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Juan Sebastián Puig. 77 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. In the 78th minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ronaldo Medeiros was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 83 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. When Montevideo's Luisito Antequera in the 86th minute got a chance for a shot 86th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 97th minute, which Ronaldo Medeiros however easily saved by the left post. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Montevideo had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
