With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Olavo Matorin tried to sneak it across the goal line. 4 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Ronaldo Medeiros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 6th minute, Ecuador's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Luisito Antequera fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. With an all-out effort, Montevideo's Julio Vera threw himself towards the right post 10 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Bray McJon, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Ronaldo Medeiros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute of the match. In the 13th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ronaldo Medeiros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. 18 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Ronaldo Medeiros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bray McJon in the 19th minute of the match. In the 21st minute of the match Montevideo got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Wilson Fernandez ran over to the corner to take the kick. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ronaldo Medeiros. Ronaldo Medeiros dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. When Ecuador's Daniel Zorita in the 25th minute got a chance for a shot 25th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Montevideo's goalie prevented a goal. After 32 minutes, Olavo Matorin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Montevideo and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Montevideo getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Olavo Matorin hit a great ball. Montevideo's Ronaldo Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 33rd minute of play. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice moves Luisito Antequera could shoot a difficult shot in the 41st minute, which Julio Vera however easily saved by the left post. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Bray McJon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Bray McJon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luisito Antequera was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 50th minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 53 minutes, Luisito Antequera managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Montevideo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luisito Antequera was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Zeca de Alcântara hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Ronaldo Medeiros in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 60th match minute, Montevideo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bray McJon to maneuver through the defense. When Fernandão Recife fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Montevideo's protests and gave Fernandão Recife a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Montevideo's Fernandão Recife got a free kick in the 61st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luisito Antequera in the 64th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bray McJon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Olavo Matorin, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. The corner ended in Wilson Fernandez almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Wilson Fernandez might have been able to make a better finish in the 80th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Wilson Fernandez ran back to his position shaking his head. 83 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Daniel Zorita hit a great ball. Luisito Antequera recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Bray McJon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Juan Sebastián Puig got a free kick in the 91st minute. After 92 played minutes, Montevideo's Wilson Fernandez shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Julio Vera came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Montevideo reached it. The Montevideo fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
