Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Daniel Zorita kicked off to start the match. In the 3rd minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Reko Nybacka. Catugi FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Reko Nybacka made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 6th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Carlos Alberto Soares in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Catugi FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Benjamim Alvarenga in the 13th minute. 16 minutes into the match, Catugi FC's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Reko Nybacka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 17th minute of play. Reko Nybacka was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Erik Sanches kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniel Zorita in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Reko Nybacka saved Catugi FC from getting behind. In the 40th minute, Daniel Zorita hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 47 minutes, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Felix Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Carlos Alberto Soares was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Carlos Alberto Soares left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Catugi FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Edson Couto kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. A collision led to Catugi FC getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Ernesto de Amaral hit a great ball. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Catugi FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Erik Sanches didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reko Nybacka made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 63rd minute. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Alberto Soares's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Juan Sebastián Puig kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. Catugi FC's Benjamim Alvarenga got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Reko Nybacka made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 73rd minute of play. A nice corner shot did that Miguel Pimenta got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Walmir Pombal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Walmir Pombal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Antonio Arias kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. In the 89th minute of the match Benjamim Alvarenga sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera skillfully saved the ball. In the 93rd minute, Juan Sebastián Puig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
