The audience thought a goal was coming when Måns Sandberg got free with Rolando Noboa in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 10th match minute, Norrlands Athen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Qian Zhen Sheng to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Julian Murillo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Safet Hands was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Rolando Noboa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Måns Sandberg in the 15th minute of the match. In the 17th minute of the match, Måns Sandberg got a very nice opportunity to score, but Rolando Noboa was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Rolando Noboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juan Lebron, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Stig-Arne Deckberg made in the 25th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Måns Sandberg however managed to control. After 28 minutes Peru's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Filcho Slivkov who took care of the corner kick. After a rather tough play, Peru's Efraim Gilabert got a free kick in the 35th minute. 41 minutes into the match, Norrlands Athen's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Safet Hands reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Qian Zhen Sheng hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. In the 45th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquin Prats to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan Lebron in the 53rd minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 60 minutes, Milagros Fraga managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Peru's supporters crossed their fingers, but Milagros Fraga was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Eliseo Mina came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eliseo Mina couldn't finish the play. Norrlands Athen made a substitution. Gilbert Hermansson replaced Måns Sandberg. Safet Hands showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Julian Murillo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Peru's supporters rose to their feet, but Julian Murillo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Safet Hands breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Anthony Alvarado during the 95th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Anthony Alvarado hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilbert Hermansson in the 97th minute of play. Despite being the better team, Peru failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
