Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Walter Mutuku, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. 14 minutes into the match, Rothwell Park's goal looked a bit too open when Axel Tasis came free, but Tony Githinji Muhoho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Walter Mutuku in the 20th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Walter Mutuku in the 23rd minute. In the 25th minute, Walter Mutuku left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rothwell Park fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Walter Mutuku in the 33rd minute of the match. In the 43rd minute, Walter Mutuku got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Walter Mutuku to make the kick off. Alexander Carballo hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Rothwell Park made a substitution. Abdallah Ali Bungei replaced Elijah Leakey. In the 60th minute Walter Mutuku shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rothwell Park's Shekhar Biwott got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. William Mohamed recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by William Mohamed in the 79th minute of play. 80 minutes into the game, William Mohamed cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 86th minute, Alan Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers William Mohamed in the 96th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. When the referee ended the match the Rothwell Park players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
