With an all-out effort, SANTOS F.C's Jonathan Ferrant threw himself towards the right post 11 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Durvalino Soeiro, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Durvalino Soeiro's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Rigoberto Mina kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Cauã Domingues took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 24 minutes had been played when some careless play by SANTOS F.C's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tomas Illescas was slow to take the kick. During this time Venezuela's players had a chance to rest. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Patricio Costa might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cauã Domingues. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Patricio Costa ran back to his position shaking his head. Dalmo Cerezo charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dalmo Cerezo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 27 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for SANTOS F.C! Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cauã Domingues prevented the ball from getting in the gole. SANTOS F.C's Durvalino Soeiro was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 34th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 37th minute of play forced SANTOS F.C's goalkeeper Cauã Domingues to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daniel Portillo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jonathan Ferrant having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 41st minute of play forced SANTOS F.C's goalkeeper Cauã Domingues to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Durvalino Soeiro was the one to do the kick off. After 51 minutes of play, SANTOS F.C's Abel Neto made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jonathan Ferrant was left in no man's land by his defense there! 54 minutes into the game, Faustão Queiroz threw the ball into play from the sideline. Venezuela's Salvador Gisbert quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Durvalino Soeiro in the 61st minute of play. In the 62ndth minute of the game Abel Neto who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 65th match minute, SANTOS F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Faustão Queiroz to maneuver through the defense. Tomas Illescas who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 66thth minute tested the skills of Cauã Domingues when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 67th minute, Durvalino Soeiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gustavo Vinhas in the 74th minute of play. Tomas Illescas struck a weak shot in the 76th minute. Cauã Domingues didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. In the 82nd match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Salvador Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. After 86 minutes, Faustão Queiroz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SANTOS F.C and the Venezuela players grew even worse after the yellow card.
