In the 13th minute, Julian Murillo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ionică Corcoveanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 16 minutes into the game, Peru's Julian Murillo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ionică Corcoveanu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Eintracht Cernavoda's goalkeeper Ionică Corcoveanu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ionică Corcoveanu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Julian Murillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ionică Corcoveanu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. Eliseo Mina blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ionică Corcoveanu having to make a save. Mihăiţă Jder made in the 41st minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Peru's Eliseo Mina. After the first half Peru were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Yin Li Ying stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Peru's supporters crossed their fingers, but Julian Murillo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Milagros Fraga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Peru had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
