The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 17 minutes into the match, Memphis Grizzlies's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Mattias Sawyer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 20th minute of play forced Memphis Grizzlies's goalkeeper Mattias Sawyer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th minute, Felix Montes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Daniel Zorita hit a great ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Sam Bates kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Primitivo Andino hit a great ball. The Memphis Grizzlies support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
