Jokūbas Inda kicked well hit freekick during the 2nd minute of the match. Skirmantas Balinskas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juan Rubio during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Doğan Akbudun scored 1-0 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Eglynas's Bengt-Rune Björk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseo Noboa in the 16th minute of play. 17 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Doğan Akbudun came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alan Moruga kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Eglynas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Doğan Akbudun didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eglynas's Skirmantas Balinskas got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Beržas Adomaitis's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Beržas Adomaitis helped the player get up and apologised. Beržas Adomaitis kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. After 39 minutes of play, Eglynas's Edmundas Donskis made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Skirmantas Balinskas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. 46 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Skirmantas Balinskas. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Doğan Akbudun stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Edmundas Donskis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 55th minute, Juan Rubio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Skirmantas Balinskas in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Eglynas's Doğan Akbudun got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Doğan Akbudun in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. Eliseo Noboa charged in rather forcefully in the 62nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eliseo Noboa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 62nd match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Noboa to maneuver through the defense. Doğan Akbudun fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Bengt-Rune Björk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Noboa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marijus Lukšys, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. In the 71st minute Doğan Akbudun shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 87 played minutes Eglynas got a freekick which was hit by Jogaila Enčius. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Skirmantas Balinskas in the 90th minute of play. After 92 minutes of play, Eglynas's Doğan Akbudun made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there!
