A collision led to Peru getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Anthony Alvarado hit a great ball. In the 13th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chuan Cintron saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 19th minute of the game Celio Cruz made a throw-in which Silvanito Gainza played forward. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claude Sena in the 20th minute of play. Chuan Cintron showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 24th minute of the match. 33 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Oscar De León came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 35 minutes into the game, Milagros Fraga threw the ball into play from the sideline. Atlético Municipal's Héctor Lavø quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 37 minutes into the match, Atlético Municipal's goal looked a bit too open when Moises Gayoso came free, but Chuan Cintron reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Oscar De León to strike the kick off in the second half. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oscar De León in the 51st minute of play. In the 53rd match minute, Atlético Municipal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Héctor Lavø to maneuver through the defense. Chuan Cintron showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 54th minute of the match. In the 56th match minute, Atlético Municipal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvanito Gainza to maneuver through the defense. Luz Tejedor was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 57th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oscar De León in the 59th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliseo Mina in the 61st minute of play forced Atlético Municipal's goalkeeper Chuan Cintron to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 74 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Willie Colon came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chuan Cintron took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joaquin Prats, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Milagros Fraga scored 2-0 in the 81st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Chuan Cintron, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. Atlético Municipal made a substitution. Gau Resto replaced Andoni Viguri. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. 91 minutes into the match, Atlético Municipal's goal looked a bit too open when Antonio Tenorio came free, but Chuan Cintron reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Atlético Municipal defense, Rafael Gallo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Chuan Cintron. The Atlético Municipal fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Chuan Cintron should have stopped the shot. Celio Cruz made in the 95th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Peru's Alonso Berganza.
