After a defensive mix-up in POPULAR F.C's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pancracio Paniagua came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. POPULAR F.C's Pancracio Paniagua played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Andino in the 5th minute of play. Pancracio Paniagua took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 9 minutes had been played when some careless play by POPULAR F.C's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that POPULAR F.C's Pancracio Paniagua managed to reach the ball for a save. 14 minutes into the match, POPULAR F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Pancracio Paniagua reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 17 minutes into the match, POPULAR F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Pancracio Paniagua reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 19th minute, Victorio Pabla left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The POPULAR F.C fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniel Zorita in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pancracio Paniagua saved POPULAR F.C from getting behind. 30 minutes into the match, POPULAR F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Pancracio Paniagua reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 32 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pancracio Paniagua made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Victorio Pabla, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Victorio Pabla got free with Julio Vera in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Pancracio Paniagua showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 44th minute of the match. In the 47th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. When Victorio Pabla came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the POPULAR F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Victorio Pabla couldn't finish the play. 57 minutes into the match, POPULAR F.C's Victorio Pabla sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 63rd minute, Antonio Arias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. POPULAR F.C made a substitution. Mei Xun Jun replaced Stefaan Valkeneers. POPULAR F.C's Denílson Prado was substituted for Gilson Cordeiro. After 65 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arias. Victorio Pabla recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 67 minutes, Camilo Gisbert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ecuador and the POPULAR F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 69th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 71st minute, Victorio Pabla made a precise shot to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victorio Pabla in the 85th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victorio Pabla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 90 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pancracio Paniagua made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 92nd minute. When the referee blew the final whistle, POPULAR F.C could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
