Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mamdouh Hayat ran back to his position shaking his head. 9 minutes into the match, Al-Ahli's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Berganza came free, but Clud Almagro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th minute Isidoro Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Clud Almagro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 22 minutes into the game, Al-Ahli's Matey Dachevski nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcos Cotilla made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Marcos Cotilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matey Dachevski, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After a rather tough play, Panama's Abraham Alguacil got a free kick in the 31st minute. Clud Almagro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Berganza in the 36th minute of play. Isidoro Sarmiento was extremely unlucky when he, in the 40th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The crowd rose to their feet as Panama's Tomas Berganza slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Clud Almagro. That made the score 1-1 after 42 minutes of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matey Dachevski to make the kick off. Clud Almagro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Berganza in the 52nd minute of play. In the 54th minute, Al-Ahli's Falah Al Bloshi seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Falah Al Bloshi the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Al-Ahli protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Falah Al Bloshi had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Clud Almagro went to the wrong direction when Abraham Alguacil was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Clud Almagro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Berganza, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 66th minute of play forced Al-Ahli's goalkeeper Clud Almagro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Al-Ahli's zone, Isidoro Sarmiento stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Clud Almagro came out of the goal and Isidoro Sarmiento tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 71st minute Tomas Berganza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Clud Almagro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Clud Almagro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Berganza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mamdouh Hayat fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Cotilla having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Tomas Berganza managed to get in a good position for a shot. Panama's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Berganza was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Clud Almagro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Al-Ahli's Clud Almagro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 83rd minute of play. Isidoro Sarmiento kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. After 87 played minutes Panama got a freekick which was hit by Alex Cambeiro. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Mamdouh Hayat managed to get in a good position for a shot.
