Stig Wästerberg made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. 19 minutes had been played when some careless play by Pasion Tatengue's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpected shot in the 26th minute by Daniel Zorita got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stig Wästerberg having to interfere. In the 37th minute, Felix Montenegro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Stig Wästerberg made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. Cristian Sancho kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Santiago Luken, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. After a rather tough play, Pasion Tatengue's Severiano Henrico got a free kick in the 44th minute. Felix Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Stig Wästerberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Feliberto Iraitz to make the kick off. After 52 played minutes Pasion Tatengue got a freekick which was hit by Severiano Henrico. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Pasion Tatengue's Feliberto Iraitz got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 70 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arias. Pasion Tatengue's Clay Regazzoni couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 70th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Ecuador. A hard shot 72 in the game by Feliberto Iraitz from a close distance when the talented Julio Vera managed to make a qualified save. Ecuador's players were relieved. Stig Wästerberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Pasion Tatengue's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stig Wästerberg came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Stig Wästerberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Feliberto Iraitz in the 79th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cristian Sancho during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Hadiman Effendy hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
