The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the CORINTHIANS defense, Moises Fernandino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ronaldo Barral. The CORINTHIANS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ronaldo Barral should have stopped the shot. Abel Schmidt's late challenge caught a El Salvador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Schmidt helped the player get up and apologised. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adalberto Passos in the 11th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of CORINTHIANS booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jesus Carvallo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Moises Fernandino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ricardo Zorita was a little too slow when Erasmo Ramos got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 26th minute. The score was now 3-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adalberto Passos in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ricardo Zorita prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ronaldo Barral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abram Luque in the 38th minute of play. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Marco Tamayo got a free kick in the 39th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Wilson Veiga to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilson Veiga in the 52nd minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adalberto Passos in the 53rd minute of play. Adalberto Passos took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-2. CORINTHIANS's Rui Borges was substituted for Erasmo Ramos. CORINTHIANS's Osmar Neiva was substituted for Adalberto Passos. In the 80th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Moises Fernandino to maneuver through the defense. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal in the 85th minute to try and stop a shot by CORINTHIANS's Urtsín Dumont. But to his dismay, Urtsín Dumont quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-3. Abram Luque fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronaldo Barral having to interfere. Wilson Veiga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardo Zorita having to interfere. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rui Borges, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
