The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Luis Andino a yellow card for diving instead. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ermegildo Fazzini, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Cristian Sancho in the 65thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. The Club Deportes La Serena fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
