Spectators: 40 (Terracing: 31, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Pepe Santoro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 5th minute of the match. Felipe Roldan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 12 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 15 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Pepe Santoro. Pepe Santoro dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mateo Mendez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pepe Santoro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Isidoro Beltran had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jorg Pieters fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Independiente's Pepe Santoro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of play. Sören Bengtsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristian Sancho in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pepe Santoro saved Independiente from getting behind. In the 42nd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luis Andino to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Isidoro Beltran in the 44th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

55 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Jorg Pieters came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 58th minute of the match, Felix Montenegro got a very nice opportunity to score, but Pepe Santoro was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Cristian Sancho hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. 61 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Napoleon Dropinski was slow to take the kick. During this time Independiente's players had a chance to rest. Independiente's Napoleon Dropinski was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Cristian Sancho in the 64thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Pepe Santoro, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Independiente made a substitution. Serafín Berganza replaced Albano Bertol. In the 74th minute, Daniel Zorita hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 74 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Isidoro Beltran came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 76 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Napoleon Dropinski who took care of the corner kick. In the 79th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pepe Santoro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jorg Pieters in the 84th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Independiente's Jorg Pieters, in the 84th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Independiente. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
