The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Barnaba Marud came up free with the goalie in the 3rd minute, the Paraná Clube PG fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barnaba Marud couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomas Illescas in the 5th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Oswaldo Velloso saved Paraná Clube PG from getting behind. The supporters of Paraná Clube PG booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Roberto Eger kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Durvalino Paranaense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Oswaldo Velloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 25th minute of play. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonathan Ferrant prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Oswaldo Velloso made a fantastic save in the 86th minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Paraná Clube PG fully deserved thier win.
