The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 10th minute, Joel Gaona got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Pierre-Henri Oudard didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alberto Tafalla went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. After 17 minutes of play, Mexico's Alberto Tafalla made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Pierre-Henri Oudard was left in no man's land by his defense there! Pierre-Henri Oudard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 19th minute of play. After some careless play in the En avant de guingamp defense, Joel Gaona kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pierre-Henri Oudard. The En avant de guingamp fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pierre-Henri Oudard should have stopped the shot. Lautaro Mancebo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aymerick Michelet, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Maelgwn Le Meur to make the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Mexico's Joel Gaona slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Pierre-Henri Oudard. That made the score 0-6 after 51 minutes of play.
