Ray Clemence made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luz Tejedor in the 3rd minute. In the 8th minute the ball was on its way in behind PHOENIX SC's goalkeeper Ray Clemence, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frederico Hendrickx in the 11th minute of play. Wilson Seco made in the 13th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Phoenix Kante however managed to control. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Peru's goalie and right to Severiano Redondas. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Peru's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The audience was convinced that Julian Murillo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ray Clemence was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by PHOENIX SC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frederico Hendrickx in the 33rd minute of play. In the 36th minute Frederico Hendrickx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wilson Seco made in the 40th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Phoenix Kante. 44 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Frederico Hendrickx came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Frederico Hendrickx made the kick off in the second half. In the 65th match minute, PHOENIX SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wilson Seco to maneuver through the defense. Phoenix Kante made in the 67th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Lilcho Ilchov immediately put the ball in play. Ray Clemence showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luz Tejedor in the 69th minute of the match. With a little luck, Peru's Rolando Noboa got control of the ball when Lilcho Ilchov tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rolando Noboa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lilcho Ilchov in the 72nd minute. Eliseo Mina struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Ray Clemence didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. Peru were awarded a corner in the 91th minute after PHOENIX SC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Eliseo Mina took the corner. After taking down the ball on Peru's corner Alonso Berganza fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Ray Clemence quite easily take care of the ball. Samai Asmawan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Rolando Noboa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
