Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Peru's Julian Murillo in the 69th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Ray Clemence was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for PHOENIX SC through an amazing save. 70 minutes had been played when some careless play by PHOENIX SC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. Milagros Fraga made a great header on Peru's corner, it was just that PHOENIX SC's Ray Clemence managed to reach the ball for a save.
