An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 3rd minute of play forced Manchester City's goalkeeper Paredes Goiano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Richard Edström tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ecuador's defense didn't have a chance, in the 11th minute, when Richard Edström scored to the left of an out of position Julio Vera, making the score, 1-0. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Paredes Goiano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Paredes Goiano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Paredes Goiano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Montenegro in the 17th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Manchester City's Hjalmar Bergström got a free kick in the 19th minute. 22 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Manchester City's Paredes Goiano. Paredes Goiano was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of Manchester City booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agustín Saelices didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 27th minute of the match Malte Göransson sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera skillfully saved the ball. Paredes Goiano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 30th minute of play. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Richard Edström sent off a good shot on target. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Paredes Goiano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 38 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Paredes Goiano. Manchester City's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Zorita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 41st minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paredes Goiano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After the first half Ecuador were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ulf Tingelholm in the 57th minute of play. Alf Möllgren's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alf Möllgren helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Manchester City getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Alf Möllgren hit a great ball. 66 minutes into the match, Manchester City's Ulf Tingelholm sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 68th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Zorita to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Manchester City getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Casper Biörk hit a great ball. Manchester City's defense didn't have a chance, in the 72nd minute, when Felix Montenegro scored to the left of an out of position Paredes Goiano, making the score, 1-3. 77 minutes into the game, Felix Montenegro recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Paredes Goiano. Felix Montenegro showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-4. When Manchester City's Richard Edström in the 82nd minute got a chance for a shot 82nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. In the 89th match minute, Manchester City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulf Tingelholm to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ulf Tingelholm in the 91st minute of the match. When Casper Biörk fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester City's protests and gave Casper Biörk a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Manchester City's Casper Biörk got a free kick in the 93rd minute. In the 95th minute Juan Sebastián Puig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paredes Goiano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
