In the 15th minute Kent Lindberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Cotilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Panama's Jose Carita got a free kick in the 19th minute. Marcos Cotilla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kent Lindberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Kent Lindberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcos Cotilla was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

The Panama supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Mercado Paulista F.C's performance. The match ended with a win for Mercado Paulista F.C.
