In the 10th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Abelardo Maranhense saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 10 minutes, Luis Andino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luis Andino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abel de Godoi in the 19th minute of play. Abel de Godoi hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abel de Godoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abel de Godoi in the 23rd minute of the match. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Abel de Godoi to make the kick off. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Cássio Ferraz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Olivedos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Magno Sampaio didn't get a good kick on the ball.
