After having played for 18 minutes, Mikhail Nelepin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Frente Revolucionario F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mikhail Nelepin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Frente Revolucionario F.C defense, Daniel Zorita kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ingolf Ortmark. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great ball. 39 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Luis Andino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ingolf Ortmark narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 42nd match minute, Frente Revolucionario F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stein Van Eyke to maneuver through the defense. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 77th minute after Frente Revolucionario F.C's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. In the 80th minute Stein Van Eyke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Montenegro couldn't finish the play.
