In the 18th play minute Lautaro Puig came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised 蒋青洲. 1-2. Eliseo Noboa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. 蒋青洲 tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from 康渊常 in the 24th minute of the match. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. 方磊耀 was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute, 康渊常 reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Benito Sanz. The goal made the score 1-5. The audience was convinced that 方磊耀's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. 55 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by 康渊常. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of 方磊耀's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. 方磊耀's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benito Sanz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Abel Carballo during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 91st minute, Abel Carballo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by 方磊耀 in the 92nd minute.
