Thanks to some nice moves Cassius Byrne could shoot a difficult shot in the 7th minute, which Andres Ekhi however easily saved by the left post. The supporters of USA booed when Ricart Futebol Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Ramalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Monty Rogers in the 12th minute of play forced Ricart Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Andres Ekhi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ricart Futebol Clube's Andres Ekhi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Monty Rogers in the 17th minute of play. In the 19th minute, Abel Ramalho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The USA players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ricart Futebol Clube were winning 1-4.

The USA manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Ricart Futebol Clube to win.
