Match Report

Estadio Nacional
Spectators: 47 (Terracing: 36, Seating: 11, VIP seats: 0)
The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Mariano Lacasa took the kick off in the first half of the match. Jannes Van Leempoel made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Mariano Lacasa sent off a good shot on target. In the 8th minute, Mariano Lacasa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Chile fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Suat Kaya in the 11th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Suat Kaya had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Thiago Pliego. Chile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Suat Kaya was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. 15 minutes into the game, Mariano Lacasa cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Jannes Van Leempoel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When Mariano Lacasa came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Chile fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mariano Lacasa couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Genk defense, Mariano Lacasa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jannes Van Leempoel. The Genk fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jannes Van Leempoel should have stopped the shot. If Orlando Casaus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orlando Casaus, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Mariano Lacasa received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jannes Van Leempoel came out and tried to block the shot, but Mariano Lacasa slotted it home off the left post making it 4-1 in the 27th minute. In the 38th minute, Mariano Lacasa made a precise shot to the right of Jannes Van Leempoel. Genk's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 6-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vergil Rupov in the 44th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chile's attack was well implemented in the 45th minute, but when Mariano Lacasa was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 6-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Suat Kaya to make the kick off. In the 51st minute the ball was on its way in behind Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 53rd minute Mariano Lacasa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jannes Van Leempoel came out of the goal in the 56th minute to try and stop a shot by Chile's Mariano Lacasa. But to his dismay, Mariano Lacasa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 7-1. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa in the 59th minute of play. Vergil Rupov could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Thiago Pliego made a huge save. In the 64th minute, Orlando Casaus hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 67 minutes into the match, Genk's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Lacasa came free, but Jannes Van Leempoel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa in the 69th minute of play. Mariano Lacasa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Jannes Van Leempoel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jannes Van Leempoel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Lacasa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Chile's Thiago Pliego played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Suat Kaya in the 75th minute of play. 79 minutes into the match, Mariano Lacasa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jannes Van Leempoel. Genk's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mariano Lacasa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 8-1. In the 82nd match minute, Genk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony Mampaerts to maneuver through the defense. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Genk's Segundo Ubendu managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Jose Manzanedo in the 85 minute of the game. Thiago Pliego showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Suat Kaya in the 89th minute of the match. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Genk's Vergil Rupov in the 90th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Thiago Pliego was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Chile through an amazing save. Mariano Lacasa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jannes Van Leempoel having to make a save. After a rather tough play, Genk's Tony Mampaerts got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Chile walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
