But to his dismay, Victorino Peake quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Victorino Peake, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. After 24 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Serbülent Baysan was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. The FC Anderlecht Huachipato players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 1-2.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Txilar in the 91st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dennis-Sven Piater hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match.
