The referee ignored Atlético Capixaba's protests and gave Enrico Molinaro a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Atlético Capixaba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enrico Molinaro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Atlético Capixaba defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Charles de Brito. The Atlético Capixaba fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Charles de Brito should have stopped the shot. After 38 played minutes Atlético Capixaba got a freekick which was hit by Cristóvão Varela. Felix Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Charles de Brito having to make a save.
