Pedro Manzanares was a little too slow when Aníbal Sá got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 10th minute. The score was now 2-0. If Axel Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Axel Montenegro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Haroldo Dante read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. Pedro Manzanares made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Nilmar de Moraes sent off a good shot on target. In the 22nd minute Santino Seco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Haroldo Dante saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Breno Loyola received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Pedro Manzanares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Taquaritinga booed when Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Samuel Navarro didn't get a good kick on the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Abram Sarmiento made the kick off in the second half. Varban Pavlikyanov took the ball and in the 51 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Pedro Manzanares.
