The audience thought a goal was coming when Monty Rogers got free with Jarbas Quadros in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Raphael Moore hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Turgut Soyuer in the 51st minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Marco Day to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marco Day should have stopped the shot. 68 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Turgut Soyuer came free, but Marco Day reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marco Day made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Turgut Soyuer sent off a good shot on target. Jarbas Quadros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Monty Rogers, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute.
