An unexpectedly hard shot by Robin van Persie in the 23rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fernando Celipe's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. In the 56th minute of the match Correla q va en Chancleta got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jorge Paez ran over to the corner to take the kick. Federico Brambilla could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robbrecht Colebinders in the 89th minute of play. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. In the 93rd minute Robbrecht Colebinders shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Correla q va en Chancleta supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Correla q va en Chancleta would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
