Palmares Futebol Clube's Leonardo Paz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patricio Costa in the 28th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 32 minutes, Tomas Illescas put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Leonardo Paz. Leonardo Paz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Patricio Costa went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Patricio Costa hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. After 41 played minutes, Palmares Futebol Clube's Dário Moreira shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Palmares Futebol Clube reached it. Túlio Maravilha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Vítor Sena in the 43rd minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 43rd minute João Vítor Sena shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the game, Rigoberto Mina was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palmares Futebol Clube the free kick. In the 46th minute, Rigoberto Mina hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Palmares Futebol Clube's Luisinho Nogueira shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 47th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Jonathan Ferrant but with some difficulty.

The supporters of Venezuela booed when Palmares Futebol Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 50 match minutes in a wonderful position. Túlio Maravilha didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luisinho Nogueira, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. If Luisinho Nogueira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Palmares Futebol Clube made a substitution. Thomás Maia replaced Luisinho Nogueira. Leonardo Paz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tomas Illescas in the 72nd minute. After a rather tough play, Palmares Futebol Clube's Alfredo Botelho got a free kick in the 73rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Leonardo Paz in the 75th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Túlio Maravilha in the 84th minute of play. The supporters of Palmares Futebol Clube booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. 86 minutes into the match, Túlio Maravilha had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Túlio Maravilha was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Túlio Maravilha in the 91st minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 92nd minute of play forced Palmares Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Leonardo Paz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Túlio Maravilha kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot.
