With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rolando Noboa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Marco Tardelli made a throw-in in the 38th minute of the game. Sport Clube Recife's Percy Fernandez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Milagros Fraga in the 40th minute of play. In the 42nd match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Moises Gayoso to maneuver through the defense. 43 minutes into the match, Doctor Strange dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Rolando Noboa, 1-2. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The wind increased when Doctor Strange made the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Pablo Lampard came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marco Tardelli made in the 55th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Pablo Lampard however managed to control. After a rather tough play, Sport Clube Recife's Remo Carvalho got a free kick in the 71st minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Julian Murillo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Percy Fernandez. That made the score 1-4 in the 80 minute of play. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. Percy Fernandez was out of position in the 85 minute of play, and Rafael Gallo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Rafael Gallo really showed his touch with that goal: 1-5. Peru's Alonso Berganza quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Remo Carvalho, made in the 88th minute of the game.
