Shao Jing Yuan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Zorita's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Romulo Lalla in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 26 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Juan Fernando Pratto was slow to take the kick. During this time Santa Fe's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Santa Fe's Sandro Coisne to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After a rather tough play, Santa Fe's Santi Ogazón got a free kick in the 31st minute. 33 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Shao Jing Yuan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 34th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Santa Fe's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Santa Fe's Shao Jing Yuan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 35th minute of play. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 41st minute Santa Fe were awarded a corner. Juan Fernando Pratto went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Juan Fernando Pratto almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Roque Roso came free with the goalkeeper in the 44th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Julio Vera could save by the left post. After 46 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Santa Fe's Mauricio Montes was substituted for Santi Ogazón. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. 55 minutes into the match, Santa Fe's goalkeeper Shao Jing Yuan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roque Roso in the 57th minute of play. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Shao Jing Yuan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romulo Lalla in the 63rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Romulo Lalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. 74 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Shao Jing Yuan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Shao Jing Yuan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 81st minute of the match. Steve Rogers hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. Santa Fe made a substitution. Eliott Pépin replaced Rolando Madaleno. 87 minutes had been played when some careless play by Santa Fe's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Shao Jing Yuan quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Santa Fe getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Martin Ladio hit a great ball. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Shao Jing Yuan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
