Anthony Alvarado's late challenge caught a Club Deportes Santa Cruz's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. If Luz Tejedor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Ilkka Markkula didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Julian Murillo went, in the 68th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Ilkka Markkula showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Milagros Fraga in the 70th minute of the match. 72 minutes into the game, Julian Murillo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Ilkka Markkula was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 75th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ilkka Markkula saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 78th minute of the match Antonio Gorri shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rolando Noboa showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 80th minute, Eliseo Mina got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 86 minutes of play, Peru's Julian Murillo made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ilkka Markkula was left in no man's land by his defense there! Peru made a substitution. Antonio Tenorio replaced Luz Tejedor. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. An unexpectedly hard shot by Milagros Fraga in the 92nd minute of play forced Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper Ilkka Markkula to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ilkka Markkula didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Milagros Fraga went, in the 92nd minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Ilkka Markkula showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rafael Gallo in the 97th minute of the match. 97 minutes into the game, Peru's Rafael Gallo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ilkka Markkula made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Peru fully deserved thier win.
