In the 28th match minute, Santa Fe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sandro Coisne to maneuver through the defense. 30 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juan Fernando Pratto. Santa Fe's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Juan Fernando Pratto in the 33rd minute. Santa Fe's Juan Fernando Pratto was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jonathan Ferrant in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Roque Roso could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Jonathan Ferrant didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Romulo Lalla went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. In the 40th minute Romulo Lalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roque Roso in the 46th minute of play. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Santa Fe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romulo Lalla didn't get a good kick on the ball. Santa Fe's Mauricio Montes was substituted for Santi Ogazón.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Illescas was the one to do the kick off. After having played for 53 minutes, Romulo Lalla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santa Fe's supporters crossed their fingers, but Romulo Lalla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 57 minutes of play, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Shao Jing Yuan was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roque Roso in the 61st minute of the match. In the 67th minute, Jonathan Venegas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juan Fernando Pratto in the 69th minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roque Roso in the 74th minute of the match. Roque Roso's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jonathan Ferrant read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 75th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Roque Roso came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Romulo Lalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roque Roso in the 86th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Roque Roso took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Jonathan Venegas hit a great ball. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Santa Fe had played much better football throughout.
