Inácio Cruz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Seco in the 13th minute of play. In the 14th minute Ferdinant Pierewaaijer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquin Gayoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Uruguay's zone, Fellipe Queirós stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquin Gayoso came out of the goal and Fellipe Queirós tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fellipe Queirós sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisco Seco in the 21st minute of play forced Marumby's goalkeeper Inácio Cruz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 22nd play minute Fellipe Queirós came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. 1-0. Joaquin Gayoso was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
