After 7 played minutes, Catarinense F.C.'s Jorge Ler shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Catarinense F.C. reached it. In the 8th minute, Gernando Cordeiro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Catarinense F.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Axel Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 13 minutes into the match, Catarinense F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Axel Montenegro came free, but José Chilavert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Colombia's Pedro Manzanares proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save Colombia from getting a goal against them. José Chilavert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Santino Seco in the 22nd minute of the match. Colombia were awarded a corner in the 23th minute after Catarinense F.C.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Axel Montenegro took the corner. After taking down the ball on Colombia's corner Axel Montenegro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and José Chilavert quite easily take care of the ball. Catarinense F.C.'s José Chilavert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Santino Seco in the 25th minute of play. Axel Montenegro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. José Chilavert came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by Colombia's Axel Montenegro. But to his dismay, Axel Montenegro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. 36 minutes into the match, Lucas Papacharalabous had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pedro Manzanares. Colombia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lucas Papacharalabous was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. In the 43rd minute, Santino Seco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. José Chilavert was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Georgiy Voroshilov stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pedro Manzanares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Georgiy Voroshilov in the 56th minute of the match. Colombia's Abram Secada was substituted for Axel Montenegro. The supporters of Catarinense F.C. booed when Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orlando Tafalla didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pedro Manzanares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lucas Papacharalabous, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Catarinense F.C.'s José Chilavert got control of the ball when Ignacio Mastache tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 86th minute Catarinense F.C. were awarded a corner. Jorge Ler went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Jorge Ler almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Colombia's Pedro Manzanares did a great save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Abram Secada in the 87th minute of play forced Catarinense F.C.'s goalkeeper José Chilavert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Catarinense F.C. fans cheered their team off the field, for while Colombia had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
