Andre Darmuis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marco Day having to make a save. 15 minutes into the match, USA's goalkeeper Marco Day had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Andre Darmuis. Dacian Nițescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Monty Rogers in the 24th minute of play. Don Cabezon received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Marco Day came out and tried to block the shot, but Don Cabezon slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 34th minute. USA's Marco Day proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save USA from getting a goal against them. In the 47th minute Monty Rogers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dacian Nițescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cassius Byrne stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
