Holger Vester was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francesco Totti in the 43rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th match minute, Hammarby IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celedonio Dominguez to maneuver through the defense. Holger Vester showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Hammarby IF's Holger Vester played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 45th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. If Felix Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Hammarby IF's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Holger Vester came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Hammarby IF getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Isaltino Paes hit a great ball. 73 minutes into the match, Hammarby IF's goalkeeper Holger Vester had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 75thth minute tested the skills of Holger Vester when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Holger Vester stood somewhat misplaced when Daniel Zorita came free in front of goal and shot 1-7 to the left of him in the 75 minute. Hammarby IF's Holger Vester proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 78th minute of the match, managed to save Hammarby IF from getting a goal against them. Daniel Zorita in the 81stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Holger Vester, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Daniel Zorita took the ball and in the 83 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Holger Vester. Holger Vester dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-8. Holger Vester made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Agustín Saelices sent off a good shot on target. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Holger Vester having to interfere.
