The supporters of Ecuador booed when La Mazorca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicanor Peyo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Horacio Silvino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Daniel Zorita succeeded in the game's 33rd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-2. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Horacio Silvino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Horacio Silvino blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horacio Silvino in the 46th minute of play. The La Mazorca players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-2.

If Horacio Silvino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After having played for 58 minutes, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Felix Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Karol Kluczyk showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Andino, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. A sloppy throw-in by Primitivo Andino in the 73rd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by La Mazorca's Rosendo Orkatz. La Mazorca made a substitution. Gregorio Richie replaced Bogumil Burowski. In the 84th minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Karol Kluczyk was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. La Mazorca made a substitution. Raul Tristan replaced Mårten Svartengren. La Mazorca's Karol Kluczyk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 90th minute of play. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than La Mazorca throughout the match.
