After 8 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Jonathan Venegas. The Venezuela fans' excitement grew in the 17th match minute when Venezuela's Tomas Illescas looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Tomas Illescas took a quick shot and it went in 4-0 without a chance for Lucio Matia to make any attempt to save it. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half.
