Mark Schwarzer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 4th minute of play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Mark Schwarzer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 9th minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After a rather tough play, Te Moriste en Madrid's Mario Rodriguez got a free kick in the 12th minute. In the 14th minute, Luis Andino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Aivo Valk kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mark Schwarzer having to interfere. 21 minutes into the match, Te Moriste en Madrid's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Mark Schwarzer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 22 minutes had been played when some careless play by Te Moriste en Madrid's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. In the 23rdth minute of the game Cristian Sancho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Te Moriste en Madrid's Mark Schwarzer was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 24 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Mark Schwarzer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice moves Celso Osmundo could shoot a difficult shot in the 36th minute, which Julio Vera however easily saved by the left post. Mark Schwarzer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. After 40 minutes Te Moriste en Madrid's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. The corner led to Ecuador's Luis Andino getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 44th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mark Schwarzer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 55 played minutes Te Moriste en Madrid got a freekick which was hit by Mario Rodriguez. In the game's 56th minute Ecuador's Daniel Zorita took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Mark Schwarzer and thus the score was 1-3. In the 62nd minute, Ismael Guilabertus made a precise shot to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. After a rather tough play, Te Moriste en Madrid's Ismael Guilabertus got a free kick in the 64th minute. Aivo Valk kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Mark Schwarzer in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 68th minute. Mark Schwarzer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ismael Guilabertus's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rene Indartsu in the 72nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. In the 75thth minute of the game Rene Indartsu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Mark Schwarzer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 82nd minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Emilio Gelacio during the 83rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After some careless play in the Te Moriste en Madrid defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mark Schwarzer.
