Guaberto Playo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Axel Montenegro in the 12th minute. In the 16th minute, Flavio Elodio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Axel Montenegro got free with Guaberto Playo in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Italia's Cecilio Toro got a free kick in the 22nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Axel Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Colombia's supporters rose to their feet, but Axel Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
