After taking down the ball on Venezuela's corner Tomas Illescas fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Branislav Velchevski quite easily take care of the ball. The audience was convinced that Salvador Gisbert's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Branislav Velchevski was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. In the 14th minute, Elpidio Francis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Alex Chicote hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. In the 19th minute, Elpidio Francis ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 28th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rigoberto Mina to maneuver through the defense. After 32 minutes of play, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Esteban Iztal made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jonathan Ferrant was left in no man's land by his defense there! Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Elpidio Francis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elpidio Francis in the 42nd minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Illescas to make the kick off. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal in the 51st minute to try and stop a shot by ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Elpidio Francis. But to his dismay, Elpidio Francis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5. After 54th play minutes Elpidio Francis shot 0-6, a short shot which went by Jonathan Ferrant and just under the crossbar into goal. Tomas Illescas charged in rather forcefully in the 61st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tomas Illescas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Illescas didn't get a good kick on the ball. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA made a substitution. André Monclús replaced Elpidio Francis. After 63 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from André Monclús, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. In the 74th minute the ball was on its way in behind Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Everardo Cordarell was slow to take the kick. During this time ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's players had a chance to rest. André Monclús fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
