In the 21st minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicanor Loiola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Luca Zorita hit a great ball. Nicanor Loiola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Mancebo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 28th minute, Joel Gaona ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nicanor Loiola was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. BASEL FC's Nicanor Loiola played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Gaona in the 31st minute of play. Joel Gaona scored 0-2 in the 31st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nicanor Loiola, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Mexico were winning 0-2.

In the 96th minute, Mexico's Joel Gaona ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Nicanor Loiola. Nicanor Loiola yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. When the final whistle sounded Mexico left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than BASEL FC.
