Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Stig Malmgren ran back to his position shaking his head. Stig Malmgren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Chile's Thiago Pliego proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 8th minute of the match, managed to save Chile from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Stig Malmgren got free with Thiago Pliego in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Chile's Thiago Pliego played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stig Malmgren in the 16th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 21st minute of play forced union española s.a.'s goalkeeper Enrique Enoch to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. union española s.a.'s Vicens Espina got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by union española s.a.'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Mariano Lacasa was slow to take the kick. During this time Chile's players had a chance to rest.
