Duarte Mendes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 24th minute of play. 27 minutes into the game, Catugi FC's Fabiano Maranhense nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Duarte Mendes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Duarte Mendes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime França, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Catugi FC's Reko Nybacka proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Catugi FC from getting a goal against them. Reko Nybacka showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Esteve Hodei in the 40th minute of the match. In the 42nd minute of the match Catugi FC got a corner. AFC - Curitiba's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Edson Couto ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Catugi FC's corner Edson Couto fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Duarte Mendes quite easily take care of the ball. Reko Nybacka was a little too slow when Jan Bykowski got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 47th minute. The score was now 2-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

Jaime França could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Duarte Mendes made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jan Bykowski in the 64th minute of play forced Catugi FC's goalkeeper Reko Nybacka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Catugi FC getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Vicente Valladares hit a great ball. In the 68th minute Romário Ortiz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reko Nybacka saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lucjan Setara's late challenge caught a Catugi FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Catugi FC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
