Marseille protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Emilio Abrego had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 43rd minute, one of R.C. Marseille:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for R.C. Marseille. R.C. Marseille:s Didier Lafargue showed great skill when he stopped Maximilien Gourmelon:s penalty. The R.C. Marseille players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. klide13 were winning 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nick Stark stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When the referee ended the match the R.C. Marseille players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
